The SIGNUM saxophone quartet is anything but ordinary: this is what happens when a relationship is born in school and continues to grow, strengthening and reinventing itself over the years. SIGNUM’s style stems from the meeting of different musical worlds: a devotion to the sound of the string quartet intertwines with a great passion for the rock classics of our time. Added to this are the charisma and virtuosity of its four musicians: Michal Knot, Jacopo Taddei, Alan Lužar, and Edoardo Zotti.
From the very first minutes of every concert, the quartet captivates the audience with a brilliant, highly nuanced sound—the result of a curiosity for boundary-pushing musical experiences and a constant pursuit of the perfect ensemble sound. SIGNUM’s passion spans eras and genres: from original compositions for saxophone quartet to arrangements of orchestral pieces, from Baroque repertoire to rock music. It is difficult to describe the joy of making and sharing music that drives the SIGNUM saxophone quartet: to truly understand it, you have to hear them live.
After winning numerous international competitions, the young quartet made its debut at Carnegie Hall in New York in 2013, launching a trajectory that quickly established them on the international stage. Awarded the title of “Rising Stars” by the European Concert Hall Organization (ECHO), SIGNUM now performs regularly on Europe’s most prestigious stages.
The SIGNUM saxophone quartet is appreciated not only for its concerts, but also for its numerous collaborations with prominent musicians. Notable among these is their work with the famous violinist Daniel Hope, who also invited them onto his television show Hope@Home. The quartet also collaborates with artists such as Ksenija Sidorova, Sarah Maria Sun, Lucas Debargue, and Fazıl Say.
SIGNUM’s vast repertoire is constantly evolving. Recently, the four musicians presented a new arrangement of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition—created by Jun Nagao for string orchestra and saxophone quartet—and performed on prestigious stages such as Hamburg Elbphilharmonie and Laeiszhalle, Munich Prinzregententheater, Vienna Konzerthaus, London Wigmore Hall and the famous Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival. Highlights among their upcoming projects include a tour with Fazıl Say and the world premiere of a new quintet for saxophone quartet and piano, composed and performed by Lucas Debargue.
The SIGNUM saxophone quartet has released several albums, including Echoes (2021), their debut recording for Deutsche Grammophon. In 2024, they released Chameleon (Berlin Classics).
SIGNUM is a SELMER PARIS artist and, as of 2024, serves as the “Ensemble in Residence” for Bayer Kultur.
